PAMS Newman Wins ArchitectureAU Award for Social Impact

May 12, 2025

Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS) Newman Healthcare Hub has been awarded joint winner of the inaugural ArchitectureAu Award for Social Impact.

We are immensely proud of this project which – on a deeper level than architecture alone – facilitates the gathering of people and enables the interaction between community members and healthcare. The building has an ongoing role in making healthcare more accessible and culturally appropriate for the Nyiyaparli, Martu and Western Australian Desert communities, and we are grateful to have played a small part in facilitating that on Nyiyaparli Country.

The jury cited “The collaboration and consultation with community, including the Nyiyaparli and Martu Elders, has led to a stunning, state-of-the-art health facility that is infused with the needs and wishes of the users. The Health Hub has had a profound effect on its community – both functionally, by serving as a significant meeting place; and also symbolically, by creating a visual narrative that emphasises inclusion and the history of the local area.”

Congratulations to our joint winners, The Fulcrum Agency, for their Groote Archipelago Housing Programme project, co-designed with the Anindilyakwa community in the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Thank you, also, to the jury – Troy Casey, Esther Charlesworth AM, Ben Gauntlett, Jeremy McLeod, Katelin Butler and Rory Hyde.
