Olympic Village

The London Olympic Village is still the premier urban project in Europe in recent times. It sets new standards in all areas of design and construction as well as creating a best practice urban environment. Viewed as a new part of London the project draws on the urban and architectural history of the world’s oldest metropolis. David worked as a senior design architect for BVN from concept design through to the start of construction.

Plot’s 3 & 4 as designed by BVN/Patel Taylor consist of approx. 600 dwellings and as the first two plots set out the design and construction parameters for the subsequent 2000 dwellings. These buildings were designed to take advantage of the most progressive off site construction techniques such as concrete load bearing sandwich panels manufactured in a factory and lifted into place complete with all structural and insulation requirements as well as external finishes and windows. These buildings also heavily influenced the masterplan at large and incorporated the design of the adjacent public spaces
